Center 02

Center for C3 and Organization Theory

Information, authority, and coordination. Understanding the organizations through which political decisions become action.

How do institutions turn information into action?

Political outcomes emerge from organizations as well as individuals. This developing center examines the paths by which information reaches decision-makers, authority is exercised, and institutions coordinate action. Its working scope connects organizational theory with the practical problems of collective judgment.

Questions guiding our work

  1. What happens to information as it moves through a hierarchy?
  2. When does organizational structure improve or obstruct coordination?
  3. How can institutions learn from failure without concealing responsibility?

First project

An agenda for organizational inquiry

The initial program is being developed around information, authority, and coordination. Introductory essays will establish the questions and vocabulary for later case studies.
